Old Saugerties
 


The Hudson River was the major water route from New York City to Albany.
Saugreties sharedin the benefits offered by the river and the Esopus Creek, which flows into the Hudson providng docking facilities for passenger and commercial boats.
The C. Vanderbilt was the first steamboat to ply the waters between Saugreties and New York City, during early 1800’s.
The Saugreties Steambost Company building is still there. The name on the building is Quite faded aand barely ledgible.
During the 1780’s to the 1900’s Saugreities’ location on the Hudson made it ideal for harvesting ice on the river.
